I was just thinking about having enthused about A Woman's Face yestrady, and not for the first time, and it struck me that there isn't a word for the act of sharing an enthusiasm online when more than one person engages in a convo about and indulging in that enthusiasm -e.g Connie and Joan Crawford in that movie - other than to fangirl over it.

There is a word fanboy, but that seems to be a noun only. You can be a fanboy, but you cannot fanboy. You can, however, fangirl.

Hm.

So is this some patriarchal thing to downplay such geeky enthusiasm,or am I appropriating inappopriately, or is it some maritime or naval thing like all ships being feminine?

What the hell, I believe I shall continue to fangirl, cos it's good.

From an album Grainer recorded in 1980.

Basically, it's done as if it had been from post- The Prisoner... Or if Peter Wyngarde was the Doctor circa 1970!

By a female columnist, I hasten to add - and there’s something to what she says, about the nevcessity of labelling, and the fact that “strong” so often translates to “violent, and just like a guy but with added tits”
