As in 2013 and 2015 (somehow I never did it for 2014), rather than a review of my year, I’ve assembled a playlist for the soundtrack score... So, I know what they all refer to; some of you might get what some of them refer to, but all you get is the title, composer, and thing it’s from... Day 27 - Best villain

Well, there are a lot of great villains I really love for various reasons: Hans Gruber, Keyser Soze, Guy of Gisburn, Francisco Scaramanga, etc - in fact I may have to make or find a villains’ month meme for October.

But, for those of us of a certain age, there is one figure more iconically villainous than any other... Darth Vader, Dark Lord of the Sith...

lonemagpie: guy from the cover of sanctuary (Default)
31 Day Movie Meme - Day 12 - Best soundtrack/background music in a scene.

There are a lot of great soundtracks, and a lot of great scenes, but one small piece of matching music to visuals.... This has always stuck in my head.

lonemagpie: b7 finale (b7)
Everybody will be doing reviews to the year over the next of days, but mine is, again, in the form of a soundtrack tracklist...If you're a soundtrack collector, you might well be able to assemble the following playlist (as I've done) and hear my year...

I'm giving track title, composer/performer, and album, but, as always, no conext. Some things you can figure outeasily enough. Others really will only be significant to me..

I'm not religious, and don't generally don't go for religious type songs - but I heard this on the trailer for the History Channel's "The Bible" series a few weeks back, and had to track it down. Fantastic spooky song- and Lesley and I are immediately plotting a Riario-themed Da Vinci's Demons fanvid to it, to keep us going during the wait for season 3....

Since they've kept the same musical theme for the Cybermen, I sincerely hope we'll hear some of this on Saturday... (And I'm pretty sure they did actually use a bit of that wobbling sounding melody, without the four-knocks, in Dark Water...)

Or, indeed, this version:

I’ve reviewed the soundtrack release for both seasons of Da Vinci’s Demons - you can find the first one here.

And the second - Non spoilery, for those concerned that the final episode hasn’t even aired in the US yet.

So, today I'm writing a nonfiction chapter about pirate treasure, focusing on Captain Kidd, and this music is cool accompaniment. Actually the whole soundtracks for all four movies, TBH...

lonemagpie: guy from the cover of sanctuary (Default)
Buggered if I can remember whether I posted this before or not.

Either way, it's an awesome re-edit combining the song and the "A Lannister Pays His Debts" track from the season 3 soundtrack.

Definitely part of my 2013 soundtrack, very emotional I think.

Hymn To Red October, aka the theme to The Hunt For Red October, the first movie based on a work by the late Tom Clancy, who died a few days ago. I actually meant to post this on Thursday (just cos it was October 17th, y'know)

lonemagpie: gojira patronus (gojira)
There was another song intended for Enterprise, and used in trailers on UPN, before Faith Of The Heart got put on the titles. Wherever You Will Go, by The Calling... Here's how it would have looked...

TBH I actually like Faith Of The Heart *better* than this version! Though it's clear the titles were assembled to this track, as it fits the buildup of tone and volume a lot more precisely than it does FOTH.
lonemagpie: Craig icon (007)
kd lang's Surrender was supposed to be the title song for Tomorrow Never Dies, and was originally called Tomorrow Never Dies - notice how the phrase is repeated during the song, as opposed it's single use in Sheryl Crow's song - but got a title change and shunted to the end credits when Sheryl Crow proved to have a better agent. (Her song was intended for the end credits, and was originally titled "Until That Day")

So here's how it should have gone...

The soundtrack CD that came with The Witcher 2 is really bloody good. Much better than the somewhat disappointing Assassin's Creed soundtrack that came with AC Brotherhood (and which includes several tracks of noise and misses out almost all of my favourite bits. Gamerips FTW there...)

Weird. I'm having a hard time today finding a music choice in my collection that won't send me, trigger me, turn me into a burbling wreck one sort or another. Good or bad.

Fuck.
