So, Lesley bought the Musketeers DVD, and I have to say the bootcamp featurette is easily the best show of the series!

The costume design one is quite good too - apparently they went the route they did to be the opposite from cartoony Hollywood floppy hats and feathers. Sadly, in deciding to to be motivated purely as an inversion of another design ethos, it didn't occur to anyone to think outside that line and just say "I'll google what the fuck this regiment actually wore circa 1640 and go with that."

Lesley's doing her rewatch of the Musketeers, and I just noticed a couple of lines I missed slagging off last night:

The bad guys are tunneling into the cellars of a nunnery to kill the Queen. Athos needs to know the safest place to stash the Queen. "There's a cellar with one door" says the chief nun. And they take her down there!

To the same cellars where they know the assassins are tunneling in! Does nobody have enough brain cells to say "fuck this, let's get her to the highest attic in the place" or "let's get her out the fucking door while all the bad guys are down there"?

What fucking moron wrote this? Does the BBC have no writers left with a basic grasp of narrative sense, common sense, or any fucking sense at all?

The Musketeers was great. I didn't know how it'd be based on the ads and Radio Times articles - looked like a couple of male models and a couple of guys who looked like the belonged more in a sitcom, so I didn't expect much acting - but it turned out great. Nice grimy historical fun, good performances all round (Capaldi and Hugo Speer stealing it), great fights, good music score... I'd put it on a par with Ripper Street for Sunday night viewing, so let's hope it doesn't suffer the same fate.
