Well, now that spring is being properly nice weather, and the annual gas-boiler inspection is due tomorrow, it's time to revive the DIY and suchlike. Starting with installing a new catflap in the kitchen door, as somebody - either Bel or Lesley, I presume - broke it yesterday while I was out. Also I note that there's nice fresh leaves on the raspberry plants, and have planted some plants out front...
House perimeter defences
Dec. 7th, 2013 04:01 pmAlso, we now have the garden fence replaced - with this trellis type which gales can go through without knocking down. I didn't do this one myself, though; Lesley's mum had booked a proper fence-putter-upper guy before she went into hospital. I will have to weatherproof it, though, but it's too late to do it tonight.

Flora and Fauna Friday - the bottom of the garden is filled with raspberry bushes -

which are giving me about this many for dessert every day at the moment…

Also the bees seem to be liking the thistles outside the front door... Though I'm less pleased to have these instead of big fucking juicy strawberries this year...

ants and raspberries
Jul. 24th, 2013 02:21 pmAnts - little bastards are running up and down one of the wooded stems of my raspberry patch. Normally I have no problem with ants, but if the little fuckers are eating my raspberries, they have to be exterminated!
Also the one disadvantage to going into the garden bushes to harvest rasps is the coming out covered in baby spiders and the like...

House and garden
May. 26th, 2013 06:25 pmDidn't want to not get any of the house stuff done today, because doing this reboot *does* mean a hell of a lot to me. So...
Used the Swiss Army Knife to remove old paint spatter from the bathroom sink - worked perfectly fine, so the sink is now pearly white (I didn't think to take "before" pictures of the sink close-up for comparison, so there's not much point there, but I'll be able to put up before and after pictures of the room as a whole in the coming week.)
Have also disassembled the shower door thing and remounted the vertical beam that it hangs from on the wall. Once I've repainted the room (Tuesday) then I'll reattach the door to its mount, since I'll be painting that mounting-beam as well.
In the garden (I hope nobody will mind me mentioning gardening in the house post, since there's an obvious logical connection), we've planted some leeks and turnips, as well as catmint and burgamot and... other stuff that Lesley and Anne know what it is. Green stuff.
I also built up one of those wooden wheelbarrow things for her to plant stuff in, though I'm hoping she'll let me weatherseal it first.

To the garden!
Apr. 20th, 2013 01:10 pmRight, with F1 qualifying over, I get all the fun of trying to repair the garden fence that got blown down on Thursday...
I may apply some staining/weatherproof varnish to some of the garden furniture while I'm out there, if I've enough left from last year... (otherwise it'll have to wait till at least Monday)
