Having recently played through Arkham City, and being a classic movie fan, my brain decided to fantasy-cast again. In this case, what if there was a big-budget star-studded Batman epic circa 1940?
Now, there actually *was* a Batman movie serial in 1943, starring a guy called Lewis Wilson, but what if there had been a movie with real stars? Who would play which character? Here are my picks, and some are characters created decades later, but still...
Batman/Bruce Wayne- Tyrone Power. Actually, Cary Grant would be a great Bruce, but less of a Batman. I'm thinking Power made a good Zorro, and seeing s the characters are (deliberately) similar...
Robin- Mary Morris, if we have to have Robin at all (which I admit I'd rather not). Yes, you read that right. A female Robin. Trust me on this.
Alfred- OK, you got e there. I want to say David Niven, but he's still a little young at this point.
Commissioner Gordon- Claude Rains. Obviously. He's got the 'tache sorted.
Now the villains:
The Joker- Anyone suggesting Connie gets a punch in the face. No, this is 1940, we can actually just have Cesar Romero, from the 60s series, except here he's the right age!
Harley Quinn- Bonita Granville here, I suspect.
The Penguin- Edward G Robinson
Two-Face- Bogie. Just because.
Poison Ivy- Joan Crawford. Obviously.
Mr Freeze- Conrad Veidt. Because he's the villain whose evil is all done in the name of love. Everything Freeze does is with the aim of healing his wife.
Ra's Al Ghul- Basil Rathbone. Who else would be so perfect? The smooth and vicious snarker and swordsman... And to have him be one always looking for the "World's Greatest Detective" to be his successor...
Feel free to add your own...Catwoman and Riddler, especially, are still up for grabs.
