I dunno about his books being removed in the 60s, as Scottish libraries, at least, were full of them well into the 80s - but the revelation about the removal of more adult elements is surprising. I suspect that most people these days will probably assume they'd fallen out of favour for other political reasons, like racism or colonialism, rather than for him guzzling whisky when depressed, and banging German spies posing as French prostitutes...
