Correct, albeit very much concentrating on fiction writing (it's hard not to watch TV while writing when you're writing a book about the TV show you're watching, for example!) - and an "aww" for number 11.

"you have chosen wisely"
Jun. 28th, 2014 09:35 pmA suitable background movie for the evening, while I'm pushing to finish Fortune And Glory over the weekend...

Bear in mind that not all of these are necessarily warnings, negatives, or things to avoid at all costs. It just helps to know what’s in the toolbox and why.

Working Wednesday - King Solomon's Mines
May. 14th, 2014 03:18 pmWorking Wednesday- I always loved the music from King Solomon's Mines, even though the movie is rubbish (albeit something of a guilty pleasure) - it's a great fun Jerry Goldsmith score.
And since I'm writing about the search for this legendary location today, it's an appropriate musical medley....

Music Monday - The Naked Gun
Mar. 10th, 2014 07:06 pmMusic Monday - writing about a certain historical theft is making me hear this in my head...
Remind me why I bother on a day like...
Mar. 6th, 2014 05:07 pmThat day when you see that the story you always wanted to do, which a publisher was positive about, but they then sat on for fucking ever, has now been done by some other cunt for a *different* publisher, from whom you're blacklisted, and which is trumpeted with a tagline that guarantees that you can never fucking do your story now even if it's would-be publisher ever gets their arse in gear, because everybody will assume you're ripping off the cunts who've now done it.
*Again*!

Working Wednesday - The Ecstasy of Gold
Mar. 5th, 2014 01:46 pmWorking Wednesday - this is very appropriate for writing about digging up lost treasures. Especially Confederate treasure.

FWIW, I've asked if we can upload the factual correction to the ebook, so we'll see what comes of that. As for the rest, well, that's a word count for you- somebody's favourite will always have to sit out!

In the course of valuable research for this nonfiction book, I have been practising with the bullwhip - (what do you mean you’re not surprised I have a bullwhip?) - to determine what Indiana Jones could and couldn’t realistically do with it.
You’d be surprised which bits are Myth confirmed, and which are Myth busted (without the magic of editing, anyway).
Obviously this required a volunteer to hold a weapon to be disarmed, to be pulled by it, but luckily my wife is happy to suffer for my art…

The perfect accompaniment to Nazi gold
Feb. 17th, 2014 10:06 pmNo, not boiled fish and carrots - that was World War One.
Well, what could be more appropriate background on the TV while writing about Nazi gold than this?
Also, it's one of my favourite movies and I never get bored of it.

Arrr, digging up the dead man's chest
Feb. 4th, 2014 01:18 pmSo, today I'm writing a nonfiction chapter about pirate treasure, focusing on Captain Kidd, and this music is cool accompaniment. Actually the whole soundtracks for all four movies, TBH...

One thing I've found since Lesley got the writing bug and really started pounding on the laptop in the same room - I cannot fucking work while someone else is typing in the same room. I dunno if it's a misophonia thing, or just some other neurological fuckery related to fact that the sound doesn't match the keystrokes I'm making, but I just cannot fucking concentrate on writing stuff when she's typing.
I can do anything else - play games, cook, build models, whatever. I can even make scattered posts online. But properly focus and concentrate on actual meaningful writing? No. The discontinuity and cognitive dissonance is just...
Any other writers get this, or is it just me?
