house surprise thing

One unexpected angst of clearing some stuff out is when it comes to books, and you know half the authors personally, so you're going "but I can't charity-shop *him/her* - what if they find out?!"

Anyway, the bathroom, with sugar-soap to prep the walls for paint.

The Chase

the last DW we watched was The Chase- fun, occasionally embarrassing (terrible direction, bloopers, Peter Purves as Morton Dill - he's fine as Steven Taylor though, who joins as the new companion), but entertaining overall. Contains, oddly, the first direct evidence that Daleks *can* climb stairs, and the first joke referring to the fact that they can't, in consecutive episodes!

The music still sucks, though, with that tinkly piano over melodramatic episode titles.

Still, was fun, and Ian and Barbara get a great leaving scene/montage.

Booklog #10 - Mystery Man

Read (Colin) Bateman's Mystery Man, which started off feeling like "Bernard Black as a Private Eye" - but evolved once it became clear that the mystery man is a depressive, aspie, unreliable narrator with lots of other conditions. In fact he has so many conditions (basically, *everything* from allergies to a pacemaker) that it might almost be too much to believe - if not for the fact that I know several people who really are like that!

Anyway, it was great, very touching, clever, funny, didn't handle the POV character's conditions too badly, and there are sequels to look forward to!

Mancrush?

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Man%20Crush

Having been described as having been given “a massive mancrush on Conrad Veidt” by a certain person of this online parish (You've no idea how close I am to recaptioning that "Barrowman!" pic of Tennant with a different name...), I can’t really deny it. Wondered who else I’d say qualifies as “I have a mancrush on”, so will have to think about that. Humphrey Bogart, obviously. Patrick Stewart?

Where do fictional characters come in, separate from the people who play them? James Bond, the Doctor, Gene Hunt… Gil Grissom may fall somewhere in between.

And The Stig, obviously
